So I spent a lot of time working over the holidays. It wasn't the best Christmas season I have had. I came to the conclusion that spending more time at home is worth more than any dollar figure around. My littlest David saw heard me taking a shower Saturday morning and was banging on the bedroom door.
When I got out of the shower I heard him and opened the door he looked up at me and said, "What doing daddy?" I told him I was getting dressed. He walked in and brought his book with him and watched me get dressed, once I was dressed he took me by the hand and led me down stairs, all the while carrying his book with him. He sat me down at the couch and scurried up beside me and plunked his book in my lap.
"Read book daddy." So I read to him and when I was finished he got up and got another book for me to read. I read that one too. He got another book after the second and this continued for another three books. It was at that point I realized I had missed part of his life because I was working. At some point I was working and he developed a love of having people read to him, I had missed this.
To me reading is the ultimate in recreation. I love the idea of being able to transport yourself into another world within minutes of picking up a book. I love the fact that my 6 year old reads all the time, to miss my youngest developing this would be devastating to me. To not be a part of the development of my boys I realized would be a horrible thing fro me to do.
I am now back to having all of my weekends free... for now anyway :D
